Full Professor in Chinese as a Foreign Language/Chinese Language Education

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites applications for the position of Full Professor in Chinese as a Foreign Language/Chinese Language Education.

The Department of Chinese Language and Literature is one of the oldest and strongest academic departments at the University of Macau. Both Chinese literature and Chinese linguistics programmes administered by the Department are key programmes set up by the University. The Department has over ten full-time academic staff and their expertise is spread over almost all areas in Chinese literature and Chinese linguistics. All of the academic staff are holders of doctoral degrees from prestigious universities from all around the world and more than half of them are full professors (Please visit the Department website for details:

Applicants are expected to hold a PhD in the fields of language acquisition, applied linguistics, language education, Chinese linguistics or Chinese Literature. He/She should experience and capacity of teaching and researching in the area of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Applicants are also expected to have accumulated substantial and influential publications with a high academic reputation in the field. Applicants for the position should be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching at tertiary level, outstanding research output, a willingness to provide service to the University. Capability of conducting research and teaching in English, and management experience with the Confucius Institute or similar institution would be strongly preferred. The successful candidate is expected to be involved in academic administration at various levels, in addition to the usual teaching, research and thesis supervising duties.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in as early as 16 August 2018.

Position and Remuneration
Remuneration and appointment rank offered will be competitive and commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification, current position and professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% – 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
